Most Korean dramas show the authentic Korean cuisines, which encourage the curiosity of their audiences to try Korean foods. Seeing this opportunity, people start to set up Korean foods industry.

These are the most popular Korean cuisines in Indonesia.

1. Kimchi

Kimchi is a staple food in Korean cuisine, made of salted and fermented vegetables, such as napa cabbage and Korean radish.

Kimchi is claimed to be one of the healthiest foods in the world. Quoted from health.com, kimchi is a healthy food as it contains a lot of vitamin A, B and C.

The highlighted feature of kimchi is the “good bacteria” called as lactobacilli that is always found in fermented foods, such as kimchi and yogurt.

The good bacteria improve digestion and prevents fungal infections. Some studies show that kimchi contains a substance that can prevent cancer growth.

2. Tteokbokki

Tteokbokki has a spicy taste from gochujang sauce (traditional Korean sauce). Tteokbokki is made of rice flour, and it has a chewy texture.

Tteokbokki can be found in many restaurants. Instant tteokbokki is also available.

3. Ramyeon

Korean ramyeon is available throughout Indonesia. Just like instant noodles, ramyeon has a strong, authentic umami taste. Usually, Korean people add some meat, seaweed and vegetables as the topping.

4. Kimbab

Kimbab is like Japanese sushi. Technically, sushi and kimbab is rice wrapped in seaweed with fillings. However, rice in sushi uses vinegar, while rice in kimbab does not.

The fillings in kimbab are cooked foods, such as cooked tuna, grilled bulgogi, cheese, and so much more.

5. Bulgogi

The next popular Korean food in Indonesia is bulgogi. Bulgogi is a Korean dish made of thin beef slices that are marinated and grilled on a barbeque, added with some soy sauce, onions, sesame and black pepper.

According to many sources, bulgogi is the oldest Korean food that has been existing since Goguryeo period, 37 BC.
